When someone ask what’s the best in Tokyo? I would definitely say they have various cosmetic skincare products, great food and of course their famous pancakes! Unlike the western pancakes – a thin layer with maple syrup. I would like to introduce this lovely cafe offers pancakes that is super-fluffy and melt in your month instantly in Jiyugaoka 自由が丘- Tokyo.
A little background of Jiyugaoka before show you the inside of Flipper’s. Jiyugaoka is one of my favourite place in Tokyo. Unlike the cities, Jiyugaoka is a place where can ignored by the bustles and city crowds. There are lots of various cafes, restaurants and little shops in alleys. I love to spend my afternoon here almost 10 years ago with my boyfriend (my husband now!) while he was studying in Tokyo. There are lots of memories when I stepped here again after 10 years during my business trip! I love the ambience here, people walk slowly, relax and enjoy their time just sitting at the bench. It is a great place to chill with friends in the afternoon. Anyways, let me introduce this place in my next post and sure you will love it too! Especially it’s not far from Tokyo! (just 15 mins from Shibuya station)
When we passed by this cafe, the Kiseki pancake really attracted my eyes!! No second thought, my colleague and I decided to take a break in this cosy cafe after our work that day.
The cafe is located at the 2/F and had to pass by a store selling apparel and accessories on 1/F. I believe it is also owned by the same owner but not sure as I found they are in the similar website. There are a few lined up so we have been waiting for a while, not long though. So first we have to write our name on the paper at the front table in order to reserve our seat. The lady then will call your name when is ready. We are so lucky to get in that quick only around 15 mins.
The Cafe – Interior
There aren’t lots of tables and mostly are 4-6 seats tables. So it is a great place to hang out with several friends here. The interior decoration is simple and clean, no fancy decoration but mainly wood, white wall and silver pendent only. Well I always love minimal design as we have been seeing lots of busy things in our life, aren’t we?
Most of the restaurants in Japan do prepare a little basket under your seat, it allows you to place your bag in the basket so you don’t have to worry where to put it. How attentive service this is! We have been assigned to seat in the exterior, it looks like a little glass house. Even in the exterior the seats are all full.
The Menu and of course Pancakes!
There are various kinds of pancakes in the menu, the price start from 1000 yen above and drink from 300 yen +. Pancake choices such as Green Tea, Fresh Fruit and pancake meals. Pancake meals offer bacons, eggs and veggies on top of pancake, just like the English All Day Breakfast. Besides they do offer seasonal pancakes, it was Feb when we were there, thus there is a winter menu which feature the Kiseki pancake – Hazelnut chocolate! It looks so attractive especially I love hazelnut. Thus we decided to share the hazelnut pancake and ordered coffee individually.
The super fluffy pancake served with nuts and hazelnut grilled banana on top. The portion is just enough fro 2 person. It was the best pancake that I ever had. It was so fluffy unlike those with air inside. This is not for sure! It was a perfect combo with the hazelnut sauce as well!
Highly suggest to order their seasonal pancake in limited time as I believe it sure will give you surprise. The coffee was great! but nothing special. If you decided to come here in the weekends, better to come earlier not in the peak hours as I have read a few reviews that people do lined up a long queue in the tea time! However of course it’s worth to wait for one of the best pancakes in Tokyo!
